What Connects Our Work
In Practice brings together two areas of work: - Wheelchair-led accessibility reviews - Critical thinking workshops focused on online content and media literacy At first glance, these areas may appear unrelated. However, both are built around the same core idea: understanding the difference between how things are expected to work in theory and how they are actually experienced in practice. In accessibility, this means exploring how spaces actually feel and function for wheelchair users beyond assumptions, checklists or technical compliance alone. In education, it means recognising that pupils may understand ideas such as misinformation or online influence in theory, while still finding it difficult to apply critical thinking when navigating real online content. Both areas of work are ultimately focused on the same thing: understanding real-world experience rather than relying on assumptions. Whether exploring how a wheelchair user navigates a physical space or how a pupil interprets information online, the focus is on how people actually experience and engage with the world in practice.
Accessibility
Our accessibility work explores how physical environments are experienced by wheelchair users in everyday use. Rather than focusing solely on technical accessibility standards, reviews consider practical usability, navigation and the overall experience of moving through a space. The aim is to help organisations develop a clearer understanding of accessibility through lived experience and practical observation.
Education
Our workshops explore how young people interpret, question and respond to information online. Sessions are designed to encourage reflective discussion and deeper thinking about digital content, influence and reliability, using practical examples and age-appropriate scenarios. The focus is on helping pupils become more thoughtful and confident in the way they engage with online information and ideas.
Our Approach
Across both areas of work, the focus remains the same: Real-world experience Practical understanding Thoughtful observation Reflective discussion The aim is not simply to evaluate environments or information at surface level, but to explore how people actually experience and engage with them in reality.
In Practice
The name reflects the central idea behind the project: the difference between how things are expected to work in theory and how they function in the real world. Whether considering accessibility or online information, understanding that difference can often lead to more thoughtful conversations, better decision-making and more inclusive outcomes.
