Helping Pupils Think More Critically Online
At In Practice, we deliver discussion-led workshops focused on helping pupils engage more thoughtfully with the information they encounter online. Many pupils can recognise concepts such as misinformation, influence and bias in theory, but often find it far more difficult to apply this understanding in real online environments. Our workshops focus on practical critical thinking, helping pupils question what they see, articulate their reasoning clearly and engage more thoughtfully with digital content. Sessions are designed to feel reflective, conversational and engaging. Each workshop is hands-on and designed for real classroom impact.
Workshop Focus Areas
Workshops are adapted depending on age group, setting and session focus. Topics may include:
Understanding misinformation online
Exploring how misleading content is presented online, why it can appear convincing, and how pupils can approach information more critically.
Fact-checking and reliability
Helping pupils think about where information comes from, how to question sources, and how to distinguish between reliable and unreliable content.
Influence, persuasion and algorithms
Looking at how emotion, popularity, algorithms and repetition can shape the way people interpret and respond to online content.
Critical questioning and reasoning
Encouraging pupils to think reflectively, explain their reasoning clearly and engage thoughtfully with different viewpoints.
Real-world digital scenarios
Using realistic examples and discussion prompts to help pupils apply critical thinking in practical online contexts.
Our Approach
Our workshops are designed to encourage thoughtful discussion, reflective questioning and practical critical thinking. We help pupils question sources, recognise bias and engage with online information more carefully and confidently. Rather than encouraging pupils to simply accept or reject information at face value, sessions focus on slowing down, thinking more deeply and understanding how opinions and beliefs can be shaped online. Workshops are discussion-led, engaging and adapted to suit different age groups and settings. The aim is to help pupils become more thoughtful, reflective and confident in the way they engage with digital content and ideas. Sessions encourage: Thoughtful discussion Reflective questioning Independent thinking Clear communication Real-world application
Who We Work With
Workshops can be adapted for: Primary schools (particularly older primary pupils) Secondary schools Small group sessions Enrichment programmes PSHE and wider curriculum settings Delivery formats can also be adapted depending on timetable and session length.
Why This Matters
Pupils are navigating increasingly fast-moving online environments where information is constant, persuasive and often emotionally charged. Developing the ability to question, interpret and think critically about content is becoming increasingly important, not only academically, but in everyday life. Our workshops aim to help pupils engage with online information more thoughtfully and with greater confidence.
